Friends of Africa celebrates 20th anniversary. Fr Fergus becomes FOA Chaplin.

2017

FOA current core group represented two relay teams and completed the Belfast Marathon

2016

In 2016 the Friends of Africa funded first project in Nigeria. They gave a generous donation of £19,000 to assist the Vicariate in erecting a block of three new classrooms.

FOA leave the Moita, Bwawanni project after eight successful years.

Long Term Volunteer Bernie Connolly in South Africa, opened the first school library in the SMA parish in the diocese of Rustenburg.

2007

Fr John Gallagher (SMA) asked Friends of Africa to help him run a Tuition Camp for young Maasai boys and girls in his parish of Moita, Bwawanni.

2006

Friends of Africa group fundraised to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, seven volunteers successful reached the top of the mountain.

1998

Friends of Africa was formed “No one person was responsible for starting FOA, it was a shared vision by young Irish adults who had grown up in the faith and heard about the great work or Irish Missionaries and the SMA missionaries themselves, this vision of young Irish Adults and SMA missionaries visiting Africa continues 20 years later”
